Professor Metin Sitti of Carnegie Mellon Robotics studied the mechanics of the natural world.

The motors must be extremely light, and the legs have to touch down on water perfectly each time.  Many times in a second.  Over and over again.

After many months Professor Sitti and his students produced a robot that walked on water.

The design has to be improved somemore as it rolls over and sinks once in a way.

There is a bright future for such a machine that goes on land and sea.

It will asses the quality of water in reservoirs and more importantly help rescue drowning people.
